On Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at 4:49 pm, the department responded to a mutual aid request from Hillsville Fire Department for a working structure fire at 2620 Birchtree Road off Joy Ranch Road in Woodlawn. The resident, Talissa Huff Isom, had attempted to start a fire in the fire place when she came home. The fire got out of control and quickly spread throughout the structure. Ms. Isom was treated at the scene by Carroll EMS for minor burns and smoke inhalation. The structure sustained heavy damage. The home was owned by Randy Harmon. Red Cross assisted Ms. Isom. Galax Fire remained on scene for approximately an hour.
