At 4:43am, on Thursday, January 21, 2016, Galax Fire was dispatched to assist Hillsville Fire with a structure fire at 449 Mount Zion Road in the Woodlawn community. A subject was at home at the time of the blaze, but they were not injured. The residence sustained heavy fire and smoke damage, with minor water damage. Galax Fire crews returned to the station shortly after 7am, and Hillsville Fire crews cleared the scene around 7am. Carroll Fire & Rescue assisted at the scene.
At 8:08am, both departments were dispatched back to the same address to the find the structure fully involved. The house was a total loss. No injuries were reported during the battling of the blaze. All units cleared the scene after a couple of hours. Cana Fire also sent personnel to assist on the second call. Carroll County Sheriff’s Department and the Virginia State Police are investigating the scene.
